Song: Ice Cream by Raekwon ft. Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Cappadonna
Song choice rationale:
I'm a fan of taking iconic and personally relevant flavors and crafting cocktails around them. As an early adolescent I was and still am heavily influenced by hip hop culture and the legendary Wu-Tang Clan was by far my favorite and the most influential force in hip hop at that time. I remember summer time heat waves I would always have Root Beer Floats from the ice cream spot to keep cool. Rum Raisin was my flavor of choice perhaps some foreshadowing for my future love of Rum.
The song Ice Cream by WuTang member Raekwon came out in the summer of '95 and was a huge hit and summer time anthem and one of my all time favorite songs to this day, so this cocktail is an homage to the summers of my adolescence and set to the iconic song of that period of time in my life. Also its clear from the lyrics that the song and idea behind Ice Cream is a metaphor for sex, which also ties into this drink through the use of sarsaparilla root, which while being the basis for Root Beer is also an aphrodisiac.
Recipe:
1 oz. Appleton Estate Reserve
1 oz Appleton 12 infused with Jamaican Sarsaparilla
.5 oz fresh sour (lemon lime combo)
.75 oz cream
.75 oz Raisin Syrup
Add an egg white top with Cream Soda, atomizer spritz Angostura Bitters through a stencil with the Wu Tang Clan logo so that the iconic
insignia sits on top of the drink as garnish.
